In celebration of International Women's Day and in recognition of the remarkable achievements of women, the Carson City Chamber of Commerce honored Tasha Fuson, associate superintendent for educational services for the Carson City School District, as the “Esteemed Educator” during their “Women of Distinction” meeting Friday, March 8.
The recognition not only highlights the valuable contributions women make in society, but also how they inspire others and break barriers along the way. Fuson was among 10 other women recognized who excel and make significant impacts in various fields, including science, politics, business, arts and more.
“By honoring women on this day, it inspires and empowers women and girls to pursue their goals and dreams without limitations,” said Ronni Hannaman, executive director for the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. “It sends a positive message that their contributions are valued, and their potential is limitless.”
International Women’s Day fosters a sense of solidarity among women globally. It encourages women to support each other and work together towards common goals, fostering a sense of unity and strength. As of 2022, women comprise 56.8 percent of the workforce nationwide.
The following biography was published in the meeting program and read to those in attendance.
Tasha Fuson has always been committed to educational excellence and student success. She has held a number of leadership positions in various schools after earning her master’s in educational leadership at UNLV. She was named High School Principal of the Year for Nevada while serving as the principal of Spanish Springs High School. She joined the Carson City School District in 2014 as Principal of Carson High and was named Administrator of the Year for Carson City in 2019. In 2019 she joined the school district administrative staff serving as the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services. The Nevada Association of School Boards named her the 2023 District Level Administrator of the Year Impacting Student Achievement.
The nine other honorees for 2024 include the following, alphabetically by last name: Elaine Barkdull Spencer, local entrepreneur, Kelly Brandon, Carson City Supervising District Attorney, Niki Gladys, Executive Director of Advancement for Western Nevada College, Jenny Lopiccolo, entrepreneur and change agent, Sena Loyd is a community activist and former Carson City Library Director, Marlene Maffei, executive director of the non-profit Food For Thought, Kitty McKay, Administrator of Community and Patient Experience, Lisa Schuette, Carson City Supervisor and founder of CASI and Hope Sullivan, Carson City Community Development Director.
Cliff Sorenson of the Campagni Auto Group and AD 40 Assemblyman PK O’Neill served as Masters of Ceremony for the event. Former Carson City School Superintendent Mary Pierczynski and 2020 honoree gave the keynote address.
