Senior Spotlight: Carson High’s Stefany Rugama Plans to Major in Biomedical Science
This week’s senior in the spotlight is Stefany Rugama. Stefany is an outstanding student, a talented musician and a strong leader.
Stefany was recently awarded her third academic letter for maintaining a 4.49 overall GPA. Stefany consistently took challenging classes throughout high school, including several honors and AP classes as well as working toward the completion of the Health Science Career and Technical Education pathway. She is currently taking an EMT class, which may allow her to become a certified EMT by the end of the school year.
Those who have attended Carson High football games this season may recognize Stefany as the drum major of the CHS Blue Thunder Marching Band. Stefany has been involved with band since middle school. She has played several different instruments over the years, including bassoon, oboe, flute, tenor sax, and the baritone. She has been a member of the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band throughout high school and has earned a position in the honor band all four years. She hopes to continue her marching band career at the University of Nevada in the fall.
In addition to her leadership role as drum major, Stefany has also been involved at CHS in other ways. As a blue crew leader, she helps incoming freshmen and new students to feel comfortable in such a large atmosphere. Her gentle demeanor makes her the perfect person to give new students a tour of the school on their first, often very overwhelming day. She is also an integral part of the Latinx group at CHS. This group is working toward building a more positive school culture, including changing the view of Latinx students at the school. She leads three committees in the group including fundraising the fundraising committee, Beyond High School, the committee that brings in guests to talk about options after high school and the school climate committee.
Stefany is an amazing young woman with high aspirations. She plans to attend UNR in the fall where she will major in biomedical science and minor in music. Carson High School congratulates her and wishes her all the best in her future.
