Carson High School (CHS) Career and Technical Education (CTE) HOSA – Future Health Professionals – had 42 students attend the State Leadership Conference last week. The students competed in 16 different events. Thirty-five students advanced to the second round and 18 qualified (the top 5 in Nevada qualify to compete at Internationals) to attend the International Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas, June 26-29, including 5 state champions.
Tarrah Borrowman took state for the Healthcare Issues Exam, Anne Davis took state for Home Health Aide, Arene LeBlanc took state for Physical Therapy and as a team Kennli Fassett and Kate Lucas took state for Forensics.
The CHS chapter also earned a Gold Level 100% Membership Award for 100% of health science students as registered HOSA members as well as the most prestigious Chapter of the Year award. The conference was held at the Nugget in Sparks February 25-28.
Additionally, Advisor Frank Sakelarios received the Life Saver recognition plaque for providing CPR & Stop the Bleed services over the past few years. He also received a recognition and thanks for serving on the Nevada HOSA board as Secretary/Treasurer during the 23-24 school year.
Carson High HOSA’s own Chapter President, Arene LeBlanc, was the 2023-2024 State Western Vice President and said goodbye to her office, officer team, advisors and Nevada HOSA. She plans on running for an International HOSA office in the future.

Carson High School’s Career and Technical Education program encompasses a vast number of classes and programs that teach today's students the high demand skills needed to get a job. CTE better prepares students for post-secondary education and/or the world of work, whether they choose to enter the workplace directly from high school or select to pursue post-secondary education in a technical training program, apprenticeship, or a two, or four-year college. CTE prepares students for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies and makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context.
