In the spotlight is Esmay Hargar, a vibrant Carson High senior with a heart for animals and a spirit that shines through adversity. Born into a family facing challenges, Esmay stands out not only for her academic excellence but also for her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the world.
At the heart of Esmay's world is her family; her mom, a devoted teacher, her two brothers and her dad, who bravely battles Huntington's disease from a mental health facility. Despite the hardships, Esmay remains a pillar of strength and support for her family.
Esmay's journey began early, spending six years immersed in the world of horseback riding and ranch work. The bond she shares with these majestic creatures is not just a pastime but a source of solace and joy, providing an escape from the challenges she faces at home.
Music is another cornerstone of Esmay's life. With a decade of dedication to the violin, she has lent her talent to both the Strazz and Chamber Orchestra, showcasing not only her artistic prowess but also her commitment to honing her craft.
Her freshman year brought unexpected challenges, confining her at home and temporarily halting her beloved horseback riding. However, this setback ignited a newfound determination. It was during this time that Esmay discovered JumpStart, a program that rekindled her motivation for education, providing a clear purpose, college. Her GPA is outstanding, and she currently has a weighted GPA of 4.45. When she graduates this June, she will graduate with her high school diploma along with her associate degree.
Her ultimate goal is to be a large animal veterinarian and attend UC Davis and their prestigious veterinarian school. She will most likely begin her collegiate journey at UNR but will then transfer after she graduates with her Bachelor’s Degree in two more years.
As Esmay's high school journey nears its conclusion, her dream of becoming a large animal vet is within reach. Her resilient spirit, marked by challenges and triumphs, defines her as more than just a student. Esmay Hargar is a symbol of strength, determination and compassion.
