Ms. Karen Hellman
Welcome to 1st Grade! I am thrilled to be teaching 1st Grade at Fritsch Elementary and I'm sure that I will have a wonderful and exciting year of teaching your child.
I was born and raised in Anaconda, Montana in the southwestern part of the state.
I received my Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Great Falls, Montana with a double minor in Music and Social Studies.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude and received the University's Elementary Student Teacher of the Year Award. During my years of teaching, I've taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades and summer school in 6th grade, K-8 School Music, Remedial Reading and private piano.
After marrying, my husband and I lived and raised our two children in Chinook, Montana, a small town in north central Montana. In the fall of 2006, we moved to Carson City, NV to be closer to our grown children (son, Jeremy in Lakeside, AZ and Rebeccca in Las Vegas, NV), to teach and to get away from the long and very cold winters in MT.
After securing my NV teaching license, I substituted in all the Elementary Schools and Eagle Valley Middle School in the 2006-2007 school year and took the tests to become a Highly Qualified Teacher in NV. I taught 4th grade at Fritsch as a long term sub all year in (2007-2008). Then, I taught 1st grade as a contracted teacher in (2008-2009), 4th grade at Fremont from (2009-20011), and 1st grade back at Fritsch from (2011 to the present). I received my TESOL endorsement in 2013-2014.
I love teaching in the Elementary classroom and especially 1st grade. I feel it is a very fulfilling and great profession! I feel it is most important to work closely with the parents, so that the students can achieve success in their education.
